Derailed

As a fan of Clive Owen I was hoping for a good film. I did not get it. Unless you enjoy watching Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen there is no reason to see Derailed. The plot twists are many but there is no theme developed. We are left with nothing more then two hours of watching Owen and Aniston run around.

Watch Closer instead.

Serenity

Is there a world without sin? Would that truly be a perfect world?

Is the will to fight a good thing? It depends what one is fighting for. Balance. Proper balance. There is a time for everything.

Serenity is a movie based on the SciFi television show Firefly. It is action packed adventure. But more then that it is a journey toward belief.

Even if you don’t like science fiction this is one to watch.

Jarhead

War.

When I was a kid I watched WW2 movies and wanted to be a solder. After coming out of this film I did not have that same feeling. War is not glorified. War is not vilified. War is: sad but true, sometimes necessary, sometime pointless.

Jake Gyllenhaal gives a great performance with solid support from Peter Sarsgaard, Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper.

Based on the book by Anthony Swofford, a marine in the first Gulf War. In the end this movie is not about a war or about politics. It is about the very human experience of a horrible reality.

Stay

Go and see this movie. Ask questions later.

Stay is directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Monster’s Ball) and written by David Benioff (Troy, 25th Hour).

Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts and Ryan Gosling all give great performances in this Psychological Thriller. It will have you guessing to the end, and then some.

Domino

The new Tony Scot film Domino, with Keira Knightly and Mickey Rourke, is based somewhat on a true story. The movie is about Domino Harvey the daughter of an English actor who after her father dies moves with her mother to Beverly Hills. The cute little English girl is not cut out for life in the hills and after having a career as a model, decides that she would like to be a bounty hunter.

The movie is told in flashbacks from Domino’s perspective as she retells her story to a FBI psychologist played by Lucy Liu. Other notable appearances by Delroy Lindo, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green, Macy Gray, Mena Suvari, Christopher Walken and Jerry Springer.

I am not completely sure what the point of the movie is. There is lots of violence and language, also some sexuality and nudity. But other then that the story is not that great. There are some twists but for the most part you can see them coming. In the end it is simply a story about a girl that has lost her way. Or just maybe she has found it.
